Big paws, big body, big personality (when being brushed) and a big heart if you are in my trusted circle. My name is Phoenix and as you can see, I don’t look like all the other kitties in here. I am a Maine Coon with a few requirements, so I will not be suitable for first time cat owners or people that have not been owned by a Maine Coon before. You must be experienced with grooming my breed as my fur is very different from other cats’. It is much thicker, so this means I will get matts and tangles more easily, which can be painful and hard to brush out if left too long. The occasional trim of fur on my ‘behind’ might also be needed if any waste gets stuck to it. What is a girl to do with such luscious long hair?! The only issue I have, is that I do not like being brushed at all and will nip if unhappy with you pretending to be a hairdresser. So an experienced hand will be necessary to help keep me happy and healthy. I will need a lot of gentle encouragement and a tonne of patience to help me over-comb my fear of the dreaded brush. I don’t want to bite you, I promise. Enough about nibbling your hands, let me tell you just how much I love being stroked on my head and around my chin. It feels amazing! I am not overly keen on having my body stroked or being picked up, but we can hopefully work on this together once I am settled and I have claimed you as my human.
Before you commit to me, you will need to think about if you have enough space for a little lion in your life. I will need more room than the average cat to stretch my legs, jump up on things and will require bigger cat scratchers, towers and litter trays too. I can be rehomed to an indoor only home with lots of space, or if you have a completely secure garden with the special cat fencing or a catio, ideal! I can go outside, but it must be to a home in a very safe and rural location. I have never been outside before, so with my lack of traffic sense and my fancy breed potentially encouraging someone to sadly call me away, location is key to helping me stay safe.
Yes you must go out and work hard all day, all in the name of your Maine Coon having a better life
