Hi there, Chino here! I’m super happy that you have come to find out more about me. I have been looking for a new home for a little while but for some reason people just don’t seem to ask about me.
First things first, let me tell you as much as I can about my back story. I had a tough start to life and I had to be taken away from my previous owners because my welfare needs weren’t being met. I was very malnourished and under weight but with lots of TLC from some amazing people I am now fit as a fiddle.
I’m an active and energetic young man which makes me perfect for someone who likes long walks in the great outdoors. I’d love to go on loads of exciting adventures together. Once we have been for a nice long walk I’d happily settle down with an enrichment toy to give my brain a little work out before it’s time for a nap.
I have always been happy and engaging when I meet new people and I love having people around me to keep me company. I’m not a cuddly dog and lots of affection can over stimulate me causing me to become grabby. I’m the kind of boy who likes to have things in my mouth and when I have access to lots of toys I tend to be much less likely to become over stimulated when receiving a fuss. I may become more affectionate in my new home once I have settled in and I am feeling safe and secure. I’m happy to wear a muzzle and the staff here are recommending I wear one when we are out and about for the first 6 months, just while I settle in and you get to know me. This is just to keep me from upsetting people who might not appreciate my exuberant mouthing when I get too excited by meeting new people.
I am a super playful chap and I love toys, especially those with a squeaker in. I enjoy playing with humans but I am also very content to play alone. I will throw toys for myself and then go and fetch them.
I am a very clever young man and I know how to sit and give my paw already. I’ll need to be kept well exercised and mentally stimulated in my new home. I try my very hardest to be clean in my kennel so that means I might already be house trained. I can be very strong on the lead but the amazing staff here have started to teach me how to walk with a loose lead. It’s a work in progress but I know it won’t take long for me to learn.
I’ve lived with other dogs before and I have made loads of dog friends since being at Gables. Alan and I have really hit it off and we often get to play off the lead together in the big paddocks. We have the best time.
I am looking to meet experienced owners who have had larger bouncy breeds before and who have plenty of time to dedicate to me. I have shown protective/guarding behaviour when I have been challenged for high value chews therefore it’s important that my new owners have the knowledge to manage this safely. Given that I was so underweight when I arrived it’s no wonder I’m not keen to share my food. I’ve had a difficult start to life but I am ready and willing to be your new best friend, if you’ll have me.
