Hi, I’m Pekin, a four year old Cocker Spaniel with a big personality and an even bigger love for people. I came from a puppy farm where I lived alongside lots of other dogs, so this whole “family life” thing is still quite new to me, but I can already tell it’s going to be my favourite chapter yet.

I absolutely adore humans. I greet everyone with a wagging tail and I’m not shy about using my paws to ask for attention. If you’re sitting down, there’s a good chance I’ll be right there, asking for cuddles. I’m confident with people and very affectionate, although if I feel unsure around other dogs, I might jump up to you for reassurance. I just like to know you’ve got me.

I’ve been very good for all my vet checks and handling, and I love being brushed. I could happily stand there soaking up the attention for ages. Toys were a bit of a mystery at first, but I’ve started to enjoy a game of fetch, especially if a squeaky squirrel is involved. When it comes to food, I’m pretty keen. I’ve not shown any evidence of resource guarding, but I do just keep eating if you try to take anything from me. I can sit when asked, even if I sometimes pop straight back up again. As I’ve never lived in a proper home before, I might need a bit of help with house training and learning the rules and routines that come with domestic life.

On walks, I can be a little busy on the lead. I might go to say hello to another dog, but I quickly lose confidence and decide I’d rather be close to you instead. Because of this, I’d really like to be the only dog in the home so I can focus on building my confidence and enjoying all the love for myself. With patient guidance, I know I’ll keep growing braver.

I could possibly live with a cat after careful introductions. What I really need is a kind, understanding family who will give me reassurance, structure and lots of affection. I’m suitable for first time owners who will slowly an gradually introduce me to the world and help my confidence grow.
