Leave a Legacy
At Gables we believe that there is a special someone out there for every dog and cat. That’s why we do our best to find loving new homes for all the animals in our care, no matter how much it costs or how long it takes. Most of our vital work is funded by gifts in Wills, as we receive no Government funding so totally rely on donations and legacies.
By remembering Gables in your Will you can help us continue to provide this commitment well into the future and ensure that we are always there to find as many dogs and cats as possible the special home we know they deserve.
These special gifts have helped fund everything from improving our animal’s accommodation to providing essential resources such as food and veterinary care.
We are incredibly grateful for every gift we receive, no matter what the size. Even the smallest gifts help us to provide our animals with food, a warm bed, veterinary care and most importantly of all, find them a loving home.
Making a Will
Making a Will, or adding a codicil to your existing Will is the only way to ensure that those you love will be taken care of, including your pets. If you have no immediate family, having an up to date Will allows you to make sure that your money benefits the people or causes that you really care about.
For more assistance and advice please contact our fundraising team on 01752 342410 or email fundraising@gables.org.uk for a free Gifts in Wills pack.
Already made a Will?
Many people make a Will and assume that’s all they need to do. However, circumstances can change over the years and so it is always advisable to take a fresh look at your Will every few years to ensure it meets your current needs.
Changing your Will
If you have already made your Will and decide that you would like to add a gift to Gables, a codicil is a good, inexpensive way to do so. Adding a codicil to your Will enables you to leave a legacy to Gables whilst ensuring that the other provisions remain untouched and you won’t have to pay for your Will to be completely rewritten.
Thank you
If you have already included a gift in your Will to Gables, or intend to in the future, we would love to hear from you. Not only will this information allow us to plan for the future but more importantly it means that we can pass on our heartfelt thanks for your generous pledge as every legacy we receive is extremely important to us.
Who will care for your pets when you’re gone?
Most responsible pet owners worry about what will happen to their pets after they are gone, but few leave any instructions in their Wills for their care.
We appreciate that many pet owners have already arranged for a family member or friend to take care of their pets in the event of their death, but when the time comes their circumstances may have changed. This leaves family members and friends distressed and unsure what to do with the person’s pet/s at such a difficult time. There have been many occasions where we have struggled to obtain legal permission to rehome pets when there is no one with authority willing or available to sign a pet over to our care.
To give pet owner’s peace of mind and their pets a secure and happy future, we have a free service that enables us to take in, care for and rehome pets in the event of their owner’s death.
When your dog or cat is brought into Gables they will be checked by a vet and given any medical treatment needed. Once settled, we will start to look for a loving new home for them.
